NYDW provides first-class training and performance opportunities for some of Wales’ most-talented and committed young dancers. It harnesses the energy and excitement of young peoples’ enthusiasm for dance and dancing, and channels it into a creative, contemporary force that celebrates the very best of Youth Dance in Wales today.

National Youth Dance Wales 2018
In 2018, National Youth Arts Wales worked in partnership with Wales’ national dance company (National Dance Company Wales, or NDCWales) to deliver a professionally-led, intensive training experience to inspire Wales’ most-talented and committed young dancers. In a programme devised by NDC Wales Resident Choreographer, Caroline Finn, and Rehearsal Director, Lee Johnston, our members were given a unique insight into the life of a company dancer, immersed in a professional environment, and given the chance to work with some of the most exciting dance artists working in the UK – and beyond – today.

National Youth Dance Wales 2019

Our aim is to inspire the next generation of dancers in Wales. We will continue our partnership with NDC Wales in 2019 so that we can curate and deliver a unique residency experience that delivers our ambition for young talent. Auditions will take place in a number of locations across Wales in early 2019 and we will be looking for talented young dancers aged 16-22 years who live or were born in Wales and who regularly engage in dance classes through their school/college, private dance school and/or with their local youth dance company.

This year, in an exciting new development for NYDW members, there will be a two-phase residency programme aimed to provide focussed training and development according to a member’s individual needs.

Phase 1

17th-18th August
Venue: National Dance Company Wales, The Dance House, Cardiff Bay

24th-26th August
Venue: National Dance Company Wales, The Dance House, Cardiff Bay

Two short residencies where members will spend time both as a company (attending class, Yoga and Pilates sessions and social activities etc) as well as time in separate groups depending on their experience to date.

Phase 2

28th October – 1st November 2019
Venue: National Dance Company Wales, The Dance House, Cardiff Bay

Open to all members, but specifically to those involved in the training strand of Phase 1. NYDW will run a 5-day residency during October half term where, as well as having NYDW specific sessions every evening, members will join the NDCWales Associates to work on the creation of a new piece of Dance to be presented at an informal sharing on 1st November.
