National Youth Choir of Wales - Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff

  • Royal College of Music and Drama Castle Grounds Cardiff CF10 3ER (map)

National Youth Choir Wales is a group of seriously talented young singers from all over Wales full of passion and potential. For this concert, they've put together a programme of their favourites.

You'll hear everything from the atmospheric music of Eric Whitacre to the beautiful melodies of Welsh composers. There's even an arrangement of one of Stevie Wonder’s legendary songs.

Music has the power to lift us up, even in difficult times, and that's what the music they’ve chosen is all about: hope.

Eric Whitacre tells the story of how Leonardo Da Vinci dreamed of creating a flying machine. Welsh composer Gareth Glyn reflects the optimism that followed the fall of the Berlin Wall. Kim André Arnesen's heartbreaking work explores hope in the most hopeless of circumstances. And did we mention Stevie Wonder?

Tim Rhys-Evans, best known for his work with Only Men Aloud and Only Boys Aloud, has arranged some of the pieces especially for this concert. So you’ll be hearing them for the very first time. As a former member of NYCW himself, Tim knows exactly what it takes to inspire the next generation of Welsh choral talent.

From the choir to the conductor to the audience, you’ll be surrounded by people who love music and singing.
