BURSARIES

Membership Costs and Financial Support

We aim to make sure that money is never a barrier to participation in any of our ensembles or projects. We simply ask applicants to make a contribution to the cost of their audition and participation where they can afford.  However, we understand that for some applicants any contribution may be out of reach, which is why we run a generous bursary scheme that supports where support is needed. We consider each applicant’s household’s income, with the aim to offer help with some or all of the contribution. We also offer an instalment payment plan.

 Audition Fee Support

Auditions are a key part of becoming a member of NYAW and we also recognise the nominal fees we charge for these could be a problem for some. We aim to provide support towards these costs, so this barrier should not be an issue to our opportunities.

a.     How much are auditions? In line with many other similar organisations, National Youth Arts Wales charges a nominal fee of £25 for our auditions.

b.     What support can I get? If you are not in a position to afford the full audition fee for any reason National Youth Arts Wales offers a full fee waiver, so you pay nothing to audition. We can also offer bespoke support, for example to contribute towards travel costs.

c.     How do I get support? You just need to let us know on your audition application form what level of support you require. If you require a fee waiver, you can select this option on the form and your fee will be waived automatically – no questions asked.

Ensemble & Project Fee Support

Thanks to our generous supporters, we invest over £2,000 in every single NYAW ensemble member, every year (this varies according to the ensemble offering and in some cases is much higher). We ask our ensemble members to contribute towards less than 50% of the costs of each ensemble - we work with our fundraising community to raise the rest.

All fees include masterclasses with industry professionals, all residential courses including accommodation and meals, social activities, welfare support, rehearsals and direction from leading artists, tutors, conductors and choreographers, plus performances across Wales’ arts venues.

Projects also have bursaries available based along the same principles as ensemble bursaries and these will be individually publicised prior to opening of the application process.

Bursary Breakdown:

1.     National Youth Arts Wales Bursaries - available to all ages:

This bursary scheme is dependent on household income and varies per ensemble as follows:

2.     The Leverhulme bursary – for under 18s only:

This is a 100% bursary available to our younger members from low-income households.

You will be automatically allocated the bursary applicable to you on application to our bursary scheme. You do not have to decide which to apply for yourself.

How do I apply?

Any member who has been offered a place on a National Youth Arts Wales ensemble and has a household income below £125,000 can apply for bursary support. If you are successful at audition stage, we will send you a link to complete a simple online application form.

If you need any other form of support, you can email us at nyaw@nyaw.org.uk and a member of the team will be in touch.

Our aim is that no one will be unable to participate on financial grounds, we understand that for some the level of contribution may be out of reach. Please don’t give up, we want to hear about what you need.
