National Youth
Brass Band
of Wales
Perform For Wales
A note from NYBBW Producer
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Margaret Antrobus to conduct the National Youth Brass Band of Wales for the first time in 2027. Margaret is a really experienced conductor and worked with the European Youth Brass Band in 2025 with great success. It’s always exciting to work with new people who will inevitably bring new ways of working and thinking about the music, making it a great experience for all involved.”
Matthew Jones OBE
National Youth Brass Band of Wales Producer
2027 Programme
Conductor: Margaret Antrobus
Margaret Antrobus is a conductor, teacher, and baritone player active in the brass band world across the UK and Norway. She serves as Deputy Principal at Manger Folkehogskole in Norway, where she has conducted bands including the "Manger Old Stars" and contributed to a schools’ brass band course as part of its conductor team. Margaret also conducted the European Youth Brass Band in 2025.
As a performer, Antrobus is well respected in the brass band community, having played Solo Baritone with the award-winning Yorkshire Building Society Band and spent several years with Manger Musikklag in Norway. She was also a member of the Yamaha Neo Brass Ensemble, performing at the Brass in Concert contest. She plays a Yamaha YBH-831S baritone and credits teachers Helga Vetaas, Kim Lofthouse, David King, and Morgan Griffiths as key influences.
Antrobus is also active as an adjudicator, having judged major contests including the 2026 European Championships and the 2025 NABBA Championships.
Repertoire: Next year’s repertoire is still TBC, but rest assured it will contain the usual combination of brass band standards, demanding test pieces and concert favourites!

This will be solely at the discretion of NYAW.
You must either have been born in Wales and/or currently living in Wales or studying full-time in Wales.
NYAW reserves the right to exclude anyone from taking part in its ensembles at its reasonable discretion, to be exercised by senior staff or trustees.

£750 + £50 non-refundable bond
Your membership fee is a contribution to all tuition costs, accommodation, food and board, travel within the residency and social activities. The full value received by each individual is over £1,800 - but thanks to the generous support from our funders and supporters, National Youth Arts Wales (NYAW) subsidises a significant part of the costs of being a member of one of the national youth ensembles.
However, we aim to make sure that money is never a barrier to participation in any of our ensembles or projects. We understand that for some applicants this contribution may be out of reach, which is why we run a generous bursary scheme that supports where support is needed.
If you have an annual household income of less than £125,000, Our Bursary Fund could help to cover some, or all, of your membership fee.
We also offer an instalment payment plan.
-
Our Bursary Fund could help to cover some or all of the membership fees, so that no-one is deterred from applying for the NYAW Ensembles for financial reasons.
Visit NYAW BURSARY FUND for full information including how to claim help toward audition costs and membership fees.
